Lawyers in Kenya through their umbrella body Law Society of Kenya (LSK) have condemned President William Ruto over his recent endless attacks on the Judiciary and making a roadside declaration (on Tuesday at a burial in Nyandarua) that going forward, he will disobey Court orders that do not align with his Government projects.
A letter from LSK dated 3 January seen by BRK says ‘gone are the days when the Judiciary played second fiddle or bowed subserviently to the Executive arm of the Government.’
The statement signed by LSK President Eric Theuri further urges President Ruto to channel his complaints of corrupt judicial officers to the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) with evidence, and not making such claims at public gatherings.
LSK has therefore called on its members to hold peaceful demonstrations next week in support of the rule of law and in solidarity with the Judiciary.
“All advocates will put on yellow ribbons beginning next week to signify their support for the rule of law. We shall have a countrywide peaceful demonstrations to stand with the independence of the Judiciary. We shall match peacefully and petition the Attorney General,” – LSK President Eric Theuri.
