A ferry from Mbita in Homa Bay County preparing to transport passengers to Luanda Kotieno in Siaya County on Tuesday developed a problem, leading to a delay of at least 4 hours.
According to a report from those privy to the incident (which happened while passengers were still boarding the ferry at Mbita terminal), the vessel’s ramp malfunctioned after one of the chains used to control it broke.
“The delay was meant to fully make sure the ramp was in perfect condition so as not to put any life at risk while the vessel crossed to Luanda Kotieno,” says Mbita Ferry Services Manager Bernard Siro.
At the time of the incident, the ferry had also been loaded with at least 13 vehicles. No injury or fatality was reported.
