High Court in Kisumu issues orders barring newly appointed Chemelil Sugar Factory Managing Director Moses Kiprop Kitum from taking office.
The order comes after a petition that had been filed by Michael Sidigu, a sugarcane farmer within Nyando Sugar belt, challenging Kiprop’s appointment by Agriculture Cabinet Secretary (CS) Muthika Linturi late 2023.
According to the petition, Kiprop’s appointment is against the Labour Laws as Chemelil Factory’s Human Resource Guidelines indicate that the suitable candidate should be below 56 years old, yet Kiprop is 58 years.
The matter has now been set for hearing on 23 January.
