Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza’s son Timothy Kinoti and her brother Murangiri Kenneth are among some five key suspects arrested by detectives derived from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), being linked to the murder of Meru blogger Daniel Muthiani, ‘Sniper’, a well-known critic of the Governor and her leadership.
The other three are Kenneth Mutua, Fredrick Muriuki and Frankline Kimathi. They will now be detained for at least 21 days to allow investigations into the gruesome murder which has now gained national attention.
A DCI report says the five are among the last people who communicated with the blogger, promising him that he would meet the Governor for a truce following their extended feud.
The blogger, according to the report, went missing days after travelling from their home in Igembe South to Meru Town.
Days later, his lifeless body was found at Mutonga River. Police believe the murder was carried out by more people, still at large.
