The National Transport & Safety Authority (NTSA) in a joint operation with the National Police Service (NPS) has launched a crackdown in major highways countrywide, targeting both private and public vehicles.
The Friday crackdown which caught hundreds of motorists by surprise seeks to enforce traffic laws and regulations ahead of school reopening next week, a time when unroadworthy and unauthorized vehicles are used to transport passengers.
Some of the spots where the NTSA roadblocks have been mounted include Thika Road, Mombasa Road at Maanzoni and along the Kisumu – Nairobi highway at Ahero.
According to NTSA, impounded vehicles include unroadworthy ones alongside those that don’t have the required documents as per the law.
