Journalists derived from multiple media houses including Nation Media, Standard Group and KBC were on Friday night assaulted by bouncers attached to Kettle House and Grill, a party spot located along Muthangari Road in Lavington.
The attack ensued after the journalists accompanying officials from National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA) raided the night club which has allegedly continued to promote the use, and sale of shisha, a banned substance in Kenya.
A report seen by BRK says the bouncers pounced on the journalists, beating them and confiscating their equipment, 2 of them being stabbed on the back and side.
The attackers were later arrested after being found hiding in the night club’s washrooms with changed clothes, initially, they committed the crime while in black suits and red ties.
A knife suspected to have been used to stab the journalists was also recovered. Several shisha smokers were also nabbed during the operation and dozens of shisha bongs confiscated by the police.
Shisha was banned in Kenya in 2017, offenders found guilty for promoting/advertising, facilitating, selling and distributing the substance is liable to a KSH. 50,000 fine or a be jailed for months or both.
