A contingent of anti-riot police have lobbed teargas cannisters at, and dispersed a group of Kenyans who had gathered around National Archives area in Nairobi CBD to celebrate former Prime Minister Raila Odinga’s 79th birthday.
The officers went ahead to clear the area, driving away anyone in sight. It’s not yet clear why the police disrupted the peaceful event. ODM Party Communications Director says the anti-riot police were led by Central Police Station OCPD.
No injuries yet to be confirmed from the Sunday afternoon incident. Those who were at the event have condemned the action by the police, saying the police have branded any activity associated with Azimio Principal Raila Odinga ‘illegal’.
