CNN’s International Correspondent Larry Madowo sparks a heated debate on X. Soon after the release of 2023 KCSE exam on Monday, the journalist took to his account to give hope to students who had failed the exam.
“I failed KCSE but I did 45 foreign trips last year. My B- in the national exam was so bad, I was getting pushed to repeat Form 4. Do not let anyone put you under pressure,” Larry wrote.
The statement has elicited mixed reactions. As others feel it is an encouragement to those who are not class-smart, others are calling him out for misleading young people who do not have similar opportunities in life like he does, and in additon, a B- is not a fail grade.
“For some unknown reason, Larry Madowo has offended you people by saying he failed in his exams but his life has turned out fine. Hii chuki yote mnatoa wapi jameni?? If the statement by Larry offends you, bwana you need to call yourself for a small meeting; you are a mango,” – Peter Oduor
Among those finding fault in his statement are lawyer Miguna Miguna and Homa Bay Town MP Peter Kaluma. The duo jointly feel Larry’s statement leads astray hardworking students.
“Only slaves are moved around this way Larry Madowo. Don’t be a glad tool of your slave master CNN. Get married, establish a family and settle brother. Richard Quest (a member of the LGBTQ community) is a bad example,” says MP Kaluma.
“Larry Madowo is an empty toothy African buffoon. White men who run CNN prefer primitive buffoons like him. He thinks that travelling around the world is a great achievement. He is just an exalted Kariuki Chotara! We won’t let him misguide our children that learning and academic excellence mean nothing,” – Miguna Miguna.
