A 36-year-old Nairobi woman has been charged with attempted murder after trying to run over her boyfriend’s wife.
The incident took place inside the man’s compound at Ridgeways Estate in Starehe Sub-County, Nairobi. It is reported that the suspect, Nduta Wangai, made her way to the man’s home in the morning of 5 January and asked to speak to him.
The man together with his wife Rebecca Ngumi, met Nduta at the gate. A heated disagreement ensued before the suspect got into her car and rammed into the couple’s gate, forcing herself inside their compound.
Court statements say while inside the compound, the suspect reversed then raced towards Mrs. Ngumi (the complainant) several times in a bid to run over her. The accused also made several attempts to hit the man using her vehicle, a Toyota RAV4.
She however missed her targets and drove into a Mercedes Benz parked inside the couple’s compound, destroying it. Nduta then fled the scene.
The man’s wife alerted the police of the incident. Nduta was traced, arrested and presented before Makadara Law Courts where she has been charged with attempted murder and malicious destruction of private property.
The suspect denied the charges and pleaded for lenient bail and bond conditions, explaining that she is a mother of four children, the youngest being seven years old. She has been released on a bond of KSH. 1M with no cash bail option.
The case has been set for mentioning on 9 April. Hearing starts on 4 July. Mrs. Ngumi’s husband has been listed as a witness in the case.
