A newly released report from National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) reveals at least 84 people have perished on Kenyan roads in multiple accidents since the year started, compared to 72 in such a period in 2023.
In the report seen by BRK, pedestrians lead in the number of fatalities, making 31 of the total number. Motor cyclists follow with a total of 23 deaths.
Passengers are third with 16 fatalities, followed by drivers (7) and pillion passengers (6). During the period, 1 cyclist lost his life.
The most recent accident reported by NTSA claimed the lives of at least 15 people along the busy Nakuru – Eldoret Highway at Twin Bridge on Tuesday morning.
The ghastly accident involved a bus belonging to Classic Kings of Congo and a PSV matatu belonging to North Ways Shuttle. All passengers in the matatu which was heading to Nairobi lost their lives.
The driver of the bus has since been arrested and charged with 15 counts of murder.
