A new report by Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) has found out that Kenyans have reduced their consumption of petroleum products since the implementation of controversial Finance Act 2023.
According to the report, Kerosene suffered the most blow, followed by Petrol, then Diesel. In general, the use of the three products has reduced by at least 3.6%.
With the signing of the Finance Bill 2023 into Law, an initial 16% tax was imposed on petroleum products before being amended to 8%.
EPRA in the report opines a section of Kenyans have resorted to other sources of energy following the high costs of petroleum products.
The energy regulator is expected to announce revised fuel prices in 3 days; 14 January.
