Detectives investigating the gruesome murder of a 20-year-old woman in Roysambu say the suspect initiated a conversation with the deceased on Instagram before luring her from their Syokimau home to TRM Drive, where her life was ghastly ended.
Conversations retrieved by the investigators reveal the deceased was at first reluctant to meet the man and even (allegedly) questioned whether he had intentions of ending her life. The suspect denied the accusations and convinced her to meet him.
The two avoided using voice calls and other messaging apps like WhatsApp, police say. The suspect had at one point told the woman that he was leaving the country soon and therefore an urgent need for their meeting.
On Saturday, the man booked a rental house along Thika Road and sent the details to the victim including the meeting time and how to access the room. The woman left their Syokimau home in Athi River for TRM Drive in Roysambu for the meeting arriving late in the evening. She informed a friend she was headed for dinner and would be back.
Police say part of the conversation shows the man asked the girl to meet him at the TRM bus stop. They then met and proceeded to their already-booked room.
Investigators also believe the murder took place in the apartment’s bathroom, the man using a hacksaw to cut the woman’s body into pieces and stashing the parts into polythene bags before dumping the dismembered parts in the dustbin. He later cleaned the apartment to wash away any evidence. The man left with the deceased’s head.
The remains were discovered the following day, long after the man had escaped the scene.
Three suspects are currently in police custody over the incident. Among them is a Nigerian national arrested at JKIA on Monday evening on suspicion of being involved in the murder of the woman. He was travelling using a Mozambican passport and was intercepted before boarding a plane, interrogated at the airport before being transferred to the Kasarani Police Station pending identification.
Police however say it is still early to ascertain whether the man in police custody is the suspect captured on camera picking keys to the house where the girl was brutally murdered.
