A Kenyan woman has been arrested by police in India at Kempegowda International Airport while smuggling 2.6kg of cocaine, tucked under her travel suitcase.
Anti-narcotics agencies in India have estimated the consignment to be at least Rs 26 crore (approx. KSH. 506M).
Sleuths of the Bengaluru unit of Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) apprehended the 36-year-old woman before she could fly out of the airport. An investigation has been launched to ascertain the source and destination of the smuggled drug.
When interrogated, the woman revealed she had landed in India last August on a tourist visa and resided in Mumbai, before relocating to Bengaluru (Bangalore) early this year.
According to police, she had recently relocated to Bengaluru in pretext of textile trade but she is suspected to have obtained the confiscated drugs from her links in the Indian city.
She is currently in custody in India as authorities carry on investigations. Her name has been withheld by Indian authorities.
