Car sellers along Kiambu Road have accused county marshals from Nairobi City Hall (popularly known as ‘kanjo’) of harassment and extortion.
The business owners have raised concerns following county officials clamping new cars on display outside showrooms, thereafter being hit with hefty fines. Further, they say the operation is allegedly being led by at least 3 local MCAs.
The county askaris however argue that the car dealers are limited to doing business inside their yards as space outside such showrooms are under external management which are authorized to collect daily parking fees.
The askaris in addition, cite instances where some showrooms along Kiambu Road and Ngong Road have blocked pedestrian walk ways while displaying vehicles on sale.
