Hundreds of boda boda riders staged a protest on Monday following the arbitrary arrest of at least 20 of their colleagues end of last week for allegedly assaulting a female motorist and destroying her car.
The riders fault the police for randomly arresting their colleagues despite their leaders offering to fish-out the perpetrators.
A transport crisis followed in the town as almost all riders withdrew their services. Those who defied the order were being forcefully asked to join the protests.
They say they will not resume operations until their colleagues are unconditionally released, promising to help police identify those who committed the offense.
Police in Kitengela however say they will not be intimidated by criminals, adding that their work is to protect members of the public from such barbaric acts by boda boda riders.
PS: Last Thursday, a woman accused of being drunk knocked down multiple boda boda riders along Namanga Rd, the riders cornered her and stoned her vehicle, leaving it badly damaged.
