At least 6 people have died in Guinea’s capital Conakry while celebrating their country’s 1-0 win against Gambia at the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Ivory Coast.
The six are reported to have been dancing while perched on top of dangerously driven cars and motorbikes before a sudden fatal collision involving two vehicles, killing 4 instantly and two others while being rushed to hospital.
Local media report that the win was an important one for the country as only three of Guinea’s 15 AFCON games since 2012 have ended in victories.
The country’s football federation has appealed for fans to celebrate in a measured fashion to avoid further tragedy.
