Two police officers attached to Rioma Police Station in Kisii County have been arrested after allegedly sneaking a jerrycan of illicit liquor ‘chang’aa’ to detained suspects inside the station’s cells.
The constables, Erick Mogoi and Francis Ngugi were on duty on Thursday evening when the incident happened. They are reported to have illegally brought the outlawed drink into the station and shared with some two murder suspects that were being held in the station cells; Mathew Omanga and David Mboga.
A police report says loud voices of the four while singing and dancing after emptying the jerrycan attracted other officers at the station.
“The four were found heavily drunk while singing redemption songs. The officers were disarmed and together with the two murder suspects, they were ferried to Kisii Police Station where they are being detained,” reads part of the report.
The empty jerrycan and an alcoblow report have been preserved as exhibits.
