Nigerian Police have arrested Oyeabuchi Daniel Okafor, son of comic actor John Okafor aka Mr Ibu and Jasmine Chioma Okekeagwu, his adopted daughter for reportedly transferring at least $60,700 (approx. KSH. 9.8M) from his medical account to themselves, funds that had been contributed by the actor’s fans for his medical bills.
The pair was arrested in Lagos. A police report says they jointly hacked into the ailing actor’s phone and fraudulently accessed his bank account, thereafter wiring over N50M (approx. KSH. 9.8M) to themselves.
The money was part of funds that had been donated by Ibu’s fans and well-wishers for the his treatment.
Detectives investigating the incident say the two had allegedly installed an app on their father’s phone after the fund-raising began. This reportedly enabled them to start transferring money out of his account.
Hours ago, a Lagos court released the two suspects on a N15M (approx. KSH. 2.7M) bail as investigations continue. They are expected to appear in court on 11 March for the next hearing.
