Basic Education Principal Secretary (PS) Belio Kipsang while reporting on efforts of the Government to have a 100% transition of learners from Primary to Secondary school, says parents and guardians of students who are yet to join Form 1 could be arrested.
“Any parent found staying at home with a learner will be dealt with as per the Basic Education Act. All children must go to school. Lack of uniforms is no excuse for a child not to go to school,” Belio says.
As of early this week, Form One enrollment stood at 80% of students who sat for their KCPE exam in 2023. The remaining 20% represents at least 280,000 learners who are yet to proceed to Form One.
