A Tanzanian woman has been sentenced to 45 years in prison for being in possession of 5.3kg of heroin worth KSH. 16M.
Maimuna Jumanne Amir was arrested in Mombasa at the Moi International Airport back in March 2021. She had concealed the drug haul in a black bag.
She will serve 35 years in prison for drug trafficking, with an additional 10 years for being in possession of drugs. However, the ten-year sentence carries an alternative fine of KSH. 48M, being three times the value of the drugs in her possession.
The prosecution presented 16 witnesses in the case.
