President William Ruto is set to headline the conferment of Eldoret town to a city in April.
Massive face-lift is ongoing including beautification of the town, demolishing of buildings considered dilapidated or sitting in road reserves or drainage lines, some built in grabbed lands.
Small scale traders including jua kali artisans, grocers and boda boda operators are being relocated to a central locations, flowers and trees taking over designated places in the town’s CBD.
Property owners have also been directed to repaint their establishments in a uniform color and install modern facilities in the buildings including ramps, lifts and CCTVs.
In addition, owners of undeveloped land have been put on notice, lest their parcels be repossessed.
After the conferment, Eldoret will be Kenya’s 5th city after Nairobi, Kisumu, Mombasa and Nakuru.
