Giant retailer Carrefour has on Tuesday launched a self-checkout service at its Village Market outlet, the second in the country, all run by the retailer.
The Village Market launch means shoppers at the outlet will now be able to make purchases, use hand-held barcode readers to scan items then pay using cashless options including M-PESA.
The service is exclusive to shoppers with up to 15 items.
To access the service, customers will click ‘Start’ on a digital screen, scan their items using the barcode reader and complete the transaction by tapping ‘Finish & Pay’.
The first self-checkout system in Kenya was launched in the chain store’s Westgate Mall outlet in March 2023.
