The family of Joy Wanjiru, a Form One student at Tumutumu Girls High School in Nyeri County is seeking answers following her sudden death while in school.
According to a family member who’ve spoken to BRK, Joy was admitted at the school on 16th January and had not communicated back home to report being ill.
Joy’s dad was however contacted on Monday by the school Principal, asking him to report to the school, with no mention of what had transpired. Joy’s grandma instead rushed to the school as her dad was away.
When she arrived at the school, hours after the call, she found Joy had already died.
According to the school management’s initial statement, Joy after allegedly developing the chest problem, was given painkillers by the school matron. When her condition deteriorated, she was rushed to Tumutumu Hospital, where medics say the student was brought in already dead.
The family says it’s not satisfied with the school’s explanation, given that Joy had no history of an underlying medical condition. Joy’s dad who has viewed the body says there are no visible injuries.
An autopsy is yet to be conducted on the body to reveal the actual cause of her death.
This comes at least two weeks after another student, 15-year-old Emmanuel Kirimi, a Form One student at Kilungu Boys in Makueni County suddenly died in school.
The school explained that Emmanuel developed a stomach upset and was rushed to Kilungu Level 3 Hospital for treatment. The medical facility said the student was brought in already dead.
