Charles J. Ouda’s fiancée Ciru Muriuki on Wednesday honored the late actor with an emotional tribute, which explained how they met and the little things that made their relationship beautiful and one of a kind.
“The first time I saw Charlie on stage was when he was at St. Mary’s School. I had just finished high school and I thought to myself ‘My goodness! he’s so cute!’ If anyone told me that 20 plus years later this luminous and effervescent man would ask me to marry him I’d have laughed you out of the room,” Ciru said.
Ciru further admits her love story with Charlie took her by surprise. She had just lost her dad the year before when she reconnected with Charlie.
“I’d just lost my dad and I was still trying to navigate the enormity of that loss. So he and I began a friendship that later had some benefits. After sometime it was clear that there was something between us that was completely undeniable,” she says.
A tearful Ciru added that as she nearly hits 42, she has never been loved as Charlie loved her.
“It wasn’t about the grand gestures, it was about the comfort, the easy intimacy and a wonderful silly friendship between us. Let me tell you, we gossiped most of you people in this room. It was such a big beautiful love,” Ciru explained while fighting tears.
On the night Charlie asked to marry her, she says she was wearing his tshirt and some torn leggings, adding that it remains the most beautiful night of her life.
Charlie was honored last evening at a beautiful event at Baraza Media Lab, attended by family, close friends and celebrities. Below is the full event, courtesy of The Undiscovered Podcast.
The actor is set to be cremated today, at Kariokor Crematorium. There’s currently an ongoing church service.
