All Regional Police Commanders in the country have been issued with a fresh directive to launch crackdowns on illegally installed strobe lights, sirens and blinding lights bars.
A letter from Office of the Deputy Inspector-General, Douglas Kanja, seen by BRK, notes reported cases of harassments by motorists with illegally installed strobe lights and sirens on Kenyan roads and highways.
“Note that the Traffic Act CAP 403 Sec 34 outlines the use of sirens and above mentioned lights, further the traffic rules and regulations, rule 83 prioritizes the use of siren by the police, fire engine and ambulances.
The order of precedence Act 2014 outlines the provisions for the entitlement for use of siren by the President, Deputy President, Speakers and the Chief Justice,” reads part of the statement.
The Regional Police Commanders have therefore been asked to take action and deal accordingly with any unauthorized motorist found with such installed lights and sirens on their vehicles, effective immediately.
“In addition, no driver will be allowed to overlap or use the wrong side of our roads or highways other than as provided in the Laws and Regulations,” the letter says further.
