Nairobi County Senator Edwin Sifuna has raised concerns over the continuous closure of recreational facility, Uhuru Park, located beside Nairobi CBD.
He says a meeting held in October 2023 between the Nairobi Governor, himself and reps from the Kenya Defense Forces (KDF) who were in-charge of the facility’s refurbishment, confirmed that face lifting work at Uhuru Park has been finalized.
“It was confirmed that the facility would be opened to the public in December 2023. Close to four months later, the facility remains inaccessible occasioning great inconvenience to residents of Nairobi and thousands of visitors the city receives on a daily basis,” reads part of a letter from Sifuna to Defense CS, Aden Duale.
From the letter seen by BRK, Senator Sifuna wants the Defense CS to make public; When the park will be officially opened, what is delaying the process and whether the facility has been handed back to the County Government of Nairobi.
The park despite its alleged closure to the public, has hosted the Nairobi County sponsored 5-day event ‘Nairobi Festival’ at least twice.
