Students of Maasai Mara University in Narok County have on Thursday afternoon clashed with the management allegedly over the upcoming Students’ Union elections.
A reliable source from the school has told BRK that it is the decision by the Chairperson of Election Appeals Committee Dr. Alexander Meitamei to postpone the elections that has led to the unrest.
According to the source, multiple students shortlisted for the hotly contested electoral positions have not attained the mandatory 60% academic pass-mark, thereby disqualifying them from vying, leading Dr. Meitamei to postpone the highly anticipated elections that were to be held today.
The students however claim this is a plot y the school’s administration to influence the outcome of the polls.
Police used teargas to disperse the striking students following the postponed elections.
