Back in 2021 as he turned 29, Afrobeats superstar Davido, born David Adeleke, used gifts he had received from friends as donations to hundreds of orphanages across Nigeria.
Days to his birthday, the singer asked his friends and those he had mentored and helped in the music industry to send him money as their birthday gifts to him. In barely 48 hours, Davido had received over N250M (approx. KSh. 14M then) sent to him by his friends, organizations and associates who’d benefitted from him.
In a sudden turn of events, he topped up the N200M with another N50M and donated the entire amount to orphanages across Nigeria, an act that led to the formation of the David Adeleke Foundation.
Since then, the global star has annually donated at least N300M to needy children in the West African County.
This year, he has announced that at least 427 orphanages are going to benefit from his annual N300M grant, approx. KSh. 27M.
“The David Adeleke Foundation has continued to grow and remains committed to making a positive impact on the lives of Nigerian children,” reads a statement from the foundation, released Friday.
