Interior CS Kithure Kindiki now attributes mass delay in passports production at Nyayo House to corruption, low investment in passport production infrastructure and supplier debts, asks for more time to sort the mess.
Kindiki says that the Government has began a move to weed out corrupt officials in the Immigration department and ensure they are apprehended and charged.
“Beginning yesterday (Friday), a crackdown has been commenced to identify all corrupt officials. Those found culpable will be removed from service, and held personally accountable by prosecution and surcharged,” Kindiki says.
Thousands of Kenyans continue to experience frustration as they seek passports to facilitate their movement, some for business, education, leisure or medical purposes, others losing employment opportunities overseas.
The CS has asked Kenyans for patience as the mess is being sorted.
