Delphina Ngigi, a 46-year-old Kenyan woman has died in Canada, three days after arriving in the country from Kenya to seek greener pastures.
Delphina left Kenya on Valentine’s Day and reached Canada on 15 February. Three days later, she developed health complications and sadly passed on the same day while undergoing treatment.
Local media in Canada report that on 17 Feb, Delphina developed health complications while waiting in the cold to be accorded shelter in Mississauga city, at a refugee camp where she was going to initially live as she figured out her stay in Canada.
“She spent up to seven hours waiting outside of the shelter as the temperature hit around -8°C, before she was eventually allowed to stay overnight in the lobby,” says an official source from Canada.
The following day, 18 Feb, while having a shower in the afternoon, local authorities report that Delphina experienced a ‘cardiac-episode’, which she later succumbed to that evening.
Delphina who was also widowed, is survived by four sons aged 21, 19, 17 and 9, who are all in Kenya. Her family which is still in shock, say they need up to $40,000 to repatriate Delphina’s body for burial in Kenya.
This comes barely a week after another Kenyan woman, Brigid Jemosop, mysteriously died in Ireland, four days after leaving Kenya.
