Two women from Kenya have been arrested by India’s Customs authorities based at the Mumbai International Airport with 6kg smuggled gold worth at least KSh. 52.85M (Rs 3 Crore).
34-year-old Najma Shaikh Mohammed and Khawaja Shanu Sulu, 48, were arrested on Sunday with 3.5kg and 2.5kg smuggled gold respectively.
They are currently detained in the country, facing involvement in gold smuggling charges.
This arrest comes barely a week after another Kenyan, Sadia Mohammed, 38, was arrested by the Customs and Airport Crime Department based at the same airport for allegedly smuggling gold worth at least KSh. 26.4M.
She was arrested after arriving in India from Nairobi through Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, local authorities in the Asian country blamed officials at JKIA for ‘negligence’.
