Nollywood actor John Okafor, popular as Mr. Ibu, has sadly passed away after suffering a cardiac arrest, his family confirms. He has died aged 62. Local media in Nigeria report that the veteran actor breathed his last at Evercare Hospital in Lagos.
He had been hospitalized following a medical condition which among other complications, led to one of his legs being amputated. A family statement says the comic actor had been on life support after recently undergoing a second surgery for his ailment.
Earlier, it had been reported that Mr. Ibu was battling constant blod clot, among other health conditions. In October 2023, he came out publicly to seek financial
assistance to foot his medical bills. Mid January 2024, his family announced plans to fly him abroad for specialized care, his doctors however shot down the plan, saying the actor wasn’t medically fit to fly.
His absence from Nollywood circles in recent years had sparked speculations about his well-being, with rumors of his deteriorating health circulating widely before his passing on Saturday evening.
