A joint operation conducted by National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA) and National Police Service (NPS) over the weekend in Nairobi, has led to the arrest of at least 10 people and over 100 shisha bongs confiscated.
The raids are meant to put an end to the sale and use of outlawed shisha, a substance that was banned in Kenya back in 2017.
On Saturday evening, NACADA stormed Quiver Lounge in Eastlands, 2 people were arrested and 18 shisha bongs seized. Another 60 pots and 126 assorted flavors were confiscated from Habanos Lounge along Kiambu Road where 7 people were arrested including the manager, sellers, and consumers of the substance.
On Sunday around 1030PM, NACADA Compliance and Enforcement officers acting on information, raided Oyster Bay Cafe Restaurant in Kilimani.
46 shisha bongs, assorted paraphernalia that includes multiple flavors, charcoal pipes, a counter book used in shisha stock-taking were seized. 4 people were arrested among whom were the manager, sellers, and a storekeeper.
All the suspects to be arraigned in court after the investigations are complete.
