Bongo star Zuchu has been suspended from performing in Zanzibar for the next six months, effective immediately. The suspension by Zanzibar Arts, Census, Film and Cultural Council comes after ‘ratchet’ photos and footages from her recent show at the Full Moon Kendwa Night concert surfaced online.
According to the council, Zuchu’s videos and images caused uproar among Zanzibar residents who considered them not in line with their cultural norms and social beliefs.
The allegations led the council to conducting an investigation into the event and confirmed acts of indecency, leading to the suspension, emphasizing its commitment to protecting Zanzibar’s cultural identity.
The council further established that Zuchu had not only failed to register with the body as part of the required regulations to perform in Zanzibar, but also had no required permits to perform at the event.
In addition to the suspension, the singer has been fined KSh. 1M and asked to apologize for her disrespect to the people of Zanzibar. Wasafi Records has since issued an apology following the incident, saying Zuchu’s actions were meant for entertainment and not disrespect to locals.
