Interior Cabinet Secretary (CS) Kithure Kindiki issues fresh directives in the fight against drug abuse and promotion out outlawed substances in the country.
1. Facilities found advertising, promoting the use and sale of shisha to be shut down with immediate effect.
2. Public officers in the enforcement chain not allowed to own bars/wines and spirits. Those already in the business ordered to close them down or resign from public service.
3. Licenses of bars and wines & spirits operating in residential areas stand revoked. All landlords or premise owners shall be deemed aiders and abettors thereof and be held liable for renting out space for establishment of bars and wines and spirits outlets in prohibited areas
4. All licenses and certification permits for second-generation alcohol and alcoholic beverage distillers and manufacturers, issued by the Kenya Revenue Authority and Kenya Bureau of Standards, stand suspended with immediate effect. All existing valid licenses will be vetted afresh within twenty-one (21) days of this directive, with premises approved to resume operations only upon receipt of fresh approval.
