BRK has exclusively established that tens of Kenya Police officers scheduled for deployment to Haiti for a UN-supported mission have chickened out of the deal, fearing for their lives.
A section of those who’ve opted out say (in anonymity) that there exists no clear mechanisms on how they are required to work while on the mission, making the mission uncertain for them.
The officers who voluntarily applied for the mission, are now bowing out following recent developments in Haiti, barely a week after the country’s Prime Minister Ariel Henry signed a deployment pact with President Ruto in Nairobi.
The dangerous Haiti gangs led by former police officer, Jimmy “Barbecue” Chérizier, have caused havoc in Haiti’s capital the last one week, including breaking into a prison and releasing over 4,000 prisoners, killing a police boss and taking over a section of Haiti’s international airport.
The gangs in addition, have denied the PM Henry entry back to the country, demanding that he resigns from wherever he is.
