The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) is embroiled in a tax dispute with Kenya Breweries Limited (KBL) over at least KSh. 12.03B owed to the taxman as at the end of financial year 2022/23, which according to the authority, arose from tax abandonment during President Uhuru Kenyatta’s tenure.
Documents from KRA show that the brewer owes KRA KSh. 8.2B as tax assessment on remission from the KSh. 11.7B on Keg beer and an additional KSh. 3.83B, an amount that has been outstanding from July 2015 to June 2020.
“The matter is currently under appeal at the Tax Appeals Tribunal (TAT) and is undergoing alternative dispute resolution (ADR) process,” KRA Commissioner General Humphrey Wattanga says.
