Remotasks platform which has been earning thousands of Kenyans money while working online as copywriters, media labelers and AI model trainers, suddenly logs out users in the country amid claims that it is ceasing operations in Kenya.
The platform, heavily championed by President Ruto to earn youths dollars, had in recent years become popular among young unemployed Kenyans seeking remote working opportunities and those in low-paying jobs or pursuing part-time side hustles.
Users have been experiencing problem accessing the platform since Tuesday, being met with a “Sorry, you have been blocked. You are unable to access remotasks.com” notification while attempting to access their accounts.
Remotasks at least a week ago, sent emails to account holders in Kenya informing them of the looming development.
“We are reaching out with an important announcement regarding Remotasks operations in your location. We are discontinuing operations in your current location effective March 8, 2024.
As part of this change, you have been off-boarded from your current project. You will receive payments associated with your work completed via the payment account set up on your profile,” the email reads in part.
