Two women have been arrested in Ruaka, suspected to have stolen over KSh. 15.6M from their employer within a period of 18 months.
The two suspects; Judy Muringe Mugo, 41, and Catherine Waithera Ruiru, 26, are respectively the Marketing Officer and Receptionist for Goshens Real Estate based in Kiambu’s Ruaka township.
The first suspect (Judy Mugo) earning KSh30,000, is accused of duping tenants into disregarding the official company Paybill and Bank Account while remitting monthly rent, and instead, directing them to use a company office line which she manned.
After receiving the hefty amounts monthly, she wired large portions to her personal bank account, then conspire with the receptionist (Catherine Waithera), who manipulated payment details in the company’s system to indicate that no tenants had any arrears.
Primary investigations have found that the receptionist had received at least KSh3.4M from Judy for ‘being cooperative’. It has been further established that Judy had recently bought a Harrier using the stolen money, a vehicle that was found parked where she lives.
The two after realizing they were being investigated, processed travel documents and were arrested before flying to Canada. They are set for arraignment today to face multiple charges including stealing by servant, conspiracy to defraud and computer fraud.
