Ten years after being convicted for murder, Jamaican dancehall artist Vybz Kartel’s sentence has been overturned. Vybz has been serving a life sentence for killing an associate in 2014.
“The judicial committee of the Privy Council has unanimously concluded that the appeals should be allowed and the appellants’ convictions should be quashed on the grounds of juror misconduct and that the case should be remitted to the Court of Appeal to decide whether to order a retrial of the appellants for the murder of Clive ‘Lizard’ Williams,” the Privy Council has ordered moments ago.
This means his life sentence has been quashed. Jamaica’s Court of Appeal will now decide whether he will be freed or retried.
Kartel, whose real name is Adidja Palmer, was convicted on March 13, 2014 along with fellow appellants Shawn Campbell, Kahira Jones and Andre St John for the murder of Clive ‘Lizard’ Williams.
