Bev Munga also known as The Vibrating Lawyer, is a household name in Kenya when in search of high quality adult toys. She talks to BRK about her journey from studying Law in the UK to getting full-time employment in Kenya as a lawyer but shelving the career to sell sex toys.
Raised in Gachie in Kiambu County, Bev, 38, spent most of her time in the UK between 2004 and 2012, before returning to Kenya. She started GSpot Kenya as a side hustle but later resigned from her full-time lawyer job to focus on selling sex toys. Thirteen years later since she started the business, she says she can’t complain.
“It worked for me then, it’s still working for me now. GSpot Kenya has bought me parcels of land, an apartment and I’m currently in the processing of acquiring the second apartment,” she says, adding that one of her highlights and profitable period in her business was when the late billionaire businessman Chris Kirubi retweeted a business post she had published on Twitter, now X.
Stocking over 200 categories of sex toys, Bev says she believes she has the best catalogue in the country, all ranging between KSh3,000 – 25,000.
Here’s her story;
Your full name?
My name is Bev Munga but mostly known as the Vibrating Lawyer. I’m 38.
Where did you grow up?
I was born and raised in Gachie area of Kiambu County
What schools did you attend and at which levels?
I started school in New Muthaiga International School then moved to St. Ann’s Junior Academy before joining High School at Mirithu Girls in Ndeiya, Limuru. I later moved to the UK after my Form 4 and joined Holborn College in London between 2004 and 2005. I then moved to Northampton University for my Law Degree between 2005 and 2008.
I did my Masters of Law in International Human Health at Birmingham University from 2008 to 2010. I didn’t stop there, I joined the London University in 2011 for my Masters of Legal Practice (Solicitor) before finally coming back to Kenya in 2012.
How did you end up studying law?
Growing up that’s all I wanted to do. I liked the profession and it was a childhood dream, so I was basically living the dream.
Where did the idea of selling toys come from?
Most of my early adult life was spent in the UK, and it actually amazed me when I saw sex toys being sold openly in shops and people could walk in and buy them just like an ordinary shopping here in Kenya. I thought that was so cool and I got myself another dream I wanted to achieve.

At what point did you ditch your Law career for your current business?
When I came back to Kenya in 2012, I started GSpot Kenya the following year in 2013 with some KSh100,000 I had saved while a student in the UK. I was in full-time employment then so I used to sell the toys as a side hustle. I bought my maiden stock from China and within 10 days, I had sold everything! That’s when I knew I was into something special. I just knew it!
So I tried with my second stock and the same happened, and this went on the same way and that’s when I made a decision to quit my job and focus on selling sex toys. So officially, I quit practicing law 8 years ago to sell toys, three years after I started selling them and becoming sure that this is what I wanted to do.
What was your first year in business like and how did you make your first customer/sale?
People go through hell in their first year of business, believe me I did not. My first year after starting GSpot Kenya was very profitable, I made a lot of clients and sold unimaginable number and varieties of toys, believe me, it was unexpectedly amazing!
My first ever client I think came from Twitter, back then I was so active on Twitter and someone just I think out of curiosity Dm’d me for an order, which I remember I delivered myself.
How has it been so far?
I can’t complain, GSpot has done me well through the past decade. This year in July, the business will be turning 11 years old. I can say I will do this over and over again because ever since I gave it my full attention, Gspot Kenya has bought me parcels of land, built me an Apartment and right now I’m in the process of building my second Apartment. To say it’s profitable for me is an understatement.

Do you use the toys yourself?
I actually do, most of the times actually, and it’s because I’m in a long distance (but stable) relationship and nobody can deny the fact they can’t randomly get horny. I personally do and that’s when I get my toys work for me.
What is that one major boost that led to your business being known?
Okay, I remember this time when I went for an interview at Capital FM in CBD and after the interview, I happened to come across the late Chris Kirubi who owned the station. We had a brief chat and he was impressed by my courage in my line of business.
Being a billionaire businessman, I never expected that he would have anything to do with my business thereafter. I suddenly got a retweet from his account on Twitter on one of my posts. He was such a bigwig on the platform. His one retweet was a turning point for my business. I sold and sold and sold, I made great networks and new clients. It was a great stepping stone for GSpot Kenya.
Where do you source your products from and who are majorly your clients?
I source my stock from all over the world as I want my clients to have and experience the best. Most of my plugs are in the US, China, Germany, Japan, like I really source widely. On average, I serve between 4,000 – 6,000 clients annually, so you can’t satisfy all these people from one supplier.
When I started, over 90% of my clients were women but I can say right now my customer bracket consists of a considerable percentage of men as well. Some who buy for their wives or girlfriends or even themselves. Another thing is that married couples also form part of my clients. There are so many married partners using toys just to spice up their sexual life.
Why do you advocate for use of toys?
I’m a big advocate for toys because no one just want to sleep around and put their lives at risk. Remember there are infections out there, there are pregnancies out there, so so much to be cautious of. So toys basically have a way of grounding you and managing your sexual life, whether single or in a long distance relationship.

What are some of the toy categories in your stock and what are their price ranges?
My catalogue is really really huge. I stock over 200 categories of toys for different purposes, all ranging between KSH3,500 to KSh25,000. I like getting my clients toys that guarantee orgasm and good service, interesting toys and what I know will bring back a buyer or earn me a referral.
They also vary in categories, like there are clitoral, rabbit vibrators, g-spot vibrators, and so many others. Their prices depend on the size, material used, strength of the toy, it’s function etc. Some even come as sets.
Are you in a relationship?
I’m in a very stable relationship and yes, my partner knows everything about my business, in fact in my dating life this is among the first things I let a guy know the first day we meet, and if they are not okay with it, they can choose to leave. I’m grateful my current partner supports me and the business.
Who inspires you?
I inspire myself. I largely drive my inspiration from not wanting to be broke. It’s called chrometophobia or fear of being poor.
What’s the process of buying your toys?
This is quite simple, I have a website, www.gspotkenya.com where you can easily and conveniently make an order or purchase a toy from. Whenever an order is placed on the website, we shall call you to verify before dispatching your order. We deliver countrywide and within East Africa.
