Investigative journalist John Allan Namu, the co-founder of exclusive investigative media house Africa Uncensored, has won the prestigious 2024 International Center for Journalists (ICFJ) Knight International Journalism Award, a recognition that celebrates the best public interest journalism and polished journalists globally.
The other two winners announced together with Namu are Ukrainian investigative reporter Valeriya Yegoshyna and Rana Sabbagh, an investigative editor from Jordan. “These journalists stand out for their brave work exposing abuses of power in places where it is both highly challenging and dangerous. From corruption to war crimes, the outstanding journalism they have done has led to greater accountability and change,” ICFJ President Sharon Moshavi has said.
The judging panel has also congratulated the winners, generally for their bravery, story-telling skills, media innovation, and holding those in power to account.
The winners of the awards will be feted on November 14 at the ICFJ’s 40th Anniversary Tribute to Journalists, slated to be held in Washington, DC. Kristen Welker, the moderator of NBC News’ journalism-centric interview show Meet the Press, has been appointed to emcee the high-level journalism event.
PS: The ICFJ Knight International Journalism Award, one of the oldest and most prestigious journalism prizes, celebrates the best public-interest journalism worldwide and is open to all publishers and journalists across print, broadcast, and online.
