Kenyans have resorted to publishing personal contacts of politicians on social media as a way of letting members of the public contact them and drop a message asking them to be against the proposed Finance Bill 2024.
As of Thursday morning, thousands of contacts had been published on X by random users, including the phone numbers of the President, his deputy, governors, women representatives, and hundreds of Members of Parliament. The move, championed by X bigwig Amerix, is a way of stopping members of the National Assembly from passing the controversial Finance Bill 2024 and letting them know the proposed taxes are not favorable to the current state of the economy.
On Wednesday night, a few MPs, including Mumias East MP Peter Salasya, publicly complained of receiving over a thousand calls and text messages warning him against the bill after admitting last week that he had neither seen nor read the Finance Bill 2024.
