Self-taught cook Dennis Ombachi has denied being granted at least KSh3.2 million by Tiktok for his content creation skills, despite being listed among some 50 creators derived from around the world, highlighted by Tiktok in a recently released list, as changemakers who develop and create inspiring content on the platform.
“This is fake news,” he says, jokingly adding that ‘the fabricated story is now making people who owe me not make plans of paying back my money.”
A statement on the TikTok website, however, lists Ombachi as one of the beneficiaries of the TikTok Change Makers Grant, which aims at supporting the creators’ respective advocacies while elevating the impact of their work through a donation of $25,000 (approx. KSh3.2 million) to at least 30 of the creators.
“As we continue forging meaningful partnerships between creators and non-profit organizations, we are also introducing the TikTok Change Makers Grant as an integral part of the TikTok Change Makers program.
Through this Grant, we are donating over $1 million to over 30 global and local non-profit organizations supporting a variety of important causes, making a $25,000 direct donation in honor of every Change Maker to support their respective advocacies while elevating the impact of their work,” says a statement on Tiktok’s website.
