The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), Renson Ingonga, has closed the six-year-old murder trial of former Migori Governor Okoth Obado in university student Sharon Otieno’s brutal murder. A total of 42 witnesses testified in the case that attracted national attention.
Obado’s lawyers say following the closure of the trial, they will submit a ‘no case to answer’ bid in favour of the ex-governor as they believe he has no hand in the inhumane murder of pregnant Sharon Otieno back on September 3, 2018.
“Your Ladyship, I will be making submissions for no case to answer in favour of Obado, then urge this court to acquit him, since evidence tendered herein exonerates him from the murder,” Obado’s lawyer Kioko Kilukumi told the court on Friday.
On the other hand, prosecution counsels Gikui Gichuhi and Allen Mulama say they will propose ex-governor Obado, his ex-personal assistant Michael Oyamo, and ex-Migori County employee Caspal Obiero be found guilty in the cold-blooded murder.
The court was presented with evidence that showed the late Sharon was driven to her death by at least two of the aforementioned suspects. Evidence also confirmed Sharon was carrying Obado’s baby at the time of her death.
