Authorities have arrested a 60-year-old Ugandan man for visiting his in-laws empty-handed. According to sources privy to the incident, his in-laws spent up to USH. 8M (approx. KSH. 323K) to prepare for his arrival, including slaughtering a bull.
Samuel Maikut’s father-in-law called the police to arrest him for failing to keep his promise which included the bride price for his daughter and cash for the extended family.
While in detention, Mr. Maikut explained that the team organizing his visit let him down, not making it clear how. He arrived at his in-laws’ alone, instead of the budgeted group of 15.
He has agreed to pay USH. 3M (approx. KSH. 121K) to start afresh the process of dowry negotiation and has also apologized to his in-laws.
