Former Tanzania President Ali Hassan Mwinyi has died, aged 98. Country’s current Head of State Samia Suluhu Hassan has announced his death in a TV broadcast.
Late Mwinyi had been hospitalized since early February, his family saying he was being treated for chest complications.
Mwinyi served as Tanzania’s second president between 1985 and 1995.
His death comes slightly over two weeks after the passing on of Tanzania’s former Tanzania Prime Minister, Edward Lowassa. Lowassa died while receiving treatment at the Jakaya Kikwete Cardiac Institute in Dar es Salaam on 10 February.
