According to a report released by Controller of Budget, at least KSh. 600M will be used in refurbishing the DP’s residence in Karen, which is said to be dilapidated.
It can be recalled that when the Kenya Kwanza Government was sworn in back in September 2022, DP Gachagua declined to use the residence, saying it was out of shape and needed an upgrade.
He accused Uhuru Kenyatta’s regime of neglecting the facility as a way of punishing then Deputy President, William Ruto.
He moved into the residence close to 8 months after being sworn to office, following repairs that cost KSh. 100M as of a May 2023 report.
PS: The official residence of Kenya’s Deputy President was built during the late Mwai Kibaki’s tenure, at a cost of KSh. 450M, on a 10-acre parcel of land in Karen.
