Dr. Mwanabule Ahmed, popular as Dr. Bule, has made history as the first female surgeon in Mombasa County. The medic’s family comes from the minority tribe of Bajuni.

She attended Faza Primary School in Lamu before joining Lamu Girls for her secondary education. She however lasted only a year at the boarding school.

“I couldn’t put up with the boarding life and opted out just after a year and went back home. I later completed my high school education at Faza Secondary School in 1998,” she says.

After passing her KCSE, she joined Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) in 2000 to train as a Clinician and graduated in 2003. She proceeded to Kampala International University in 2004 to study Bachelor of Medicine & Bachelor of Surgery MBChB,a training that lasted 6yrs.

After her graduation in 2009, she became an intern at the then Coast Provincial General Hospital (CPGH) and later rose to a Medical Officer in 2012.

In 2014, Dr. Bule took a study leave, joined Moi University where she completed successfully and later confirmed by Kenya Medical Practitioners & Dentists Council (KMPDC) as a specialist in General surgery.

Currently, she serves at the Coast General Teaching & Referral Hospital (CGTRH) and Likoni Sub County Hospital (Manyatta).

“I gradually learnt how to stand on my feet and search for greatness. I’m here to prove that greatness is an open invitation. My journey isn’t just about breaking barriers, it’s about creating waves. Never stopped pursuing my dreams. Why not you? All you need to do is to smash that timid shell. Today. Now!” – Dr. Bule.
